Pupils, parents and the team celebrate 25 years of Westmorland School

10 JULY 2026

Westmorland School is proudly celebrating its 25th anniversary, marking a remarkable journey from a small primary provision in Chorley to an all-through specialist school supporting children and young people aged five to 16 with SEN following the opening of its secondary provision in Leyland.

Pupils, parents and the team came together to celebrate the milestone with a 'Greatest Showman' themed celebration. Festivities included a circus performer, a funfair on the playing field, inflatables and lawn games in the sensory garden, plus a photo booth to capture memories of the day. With the sunshine adding to the carnival atmosphere, everyone tucked into a barbecue and refreshments too.

Rob Lynas, Deputy Head Teacher said:

“We are incredibly proud of the life-changing impact we have had on hundreds of children and young people with SEN. We have grown into a thriving all-through specialist school while remaining committed to providing a nurturing environment where every pupil can flourish.”

Many children and young people arrive after experiencing multiple placement breakdowns, having lost confidence in education and in themselves. Through specialist support, a nurturing environment and an unwavering commitment to every individual, the school helps pupils rediscover a love of learning, build confidence and develop the resilience, independence and self-belief needed to thrive both in school and beyond.

Helen Livesey mum of Alex, age 10, started Westmorland in September 2024, said:

“You have given her the space and encouragement to be herself and she is growing into a wonderful human being. Our whole family life has been changed because Alex is actually happy, settled and supported. She has grown so much, her sense of humour has developed and is so confident in herself. Thank you for loving my daughter and for wanting the best for her.”

Beyond the classroom, the school community has also made a significant contribution to the wider community too, supporting a range of local and national charities through fundraising and awareness initiatives, including Derian House and Help the Homeless.

As Westmorland School enters its next chapter, it remains focused on empowering children and young people to achieve their potential, develop resilience and confidence, and build bright futures.
