Every child, every parent and every teaching professional in SEN has a story to tell.
For many families, their story begins with hitting rock bottom. Children feeling misunderstood, parents fighting for answers and homes consumed by anxiety, uncertainty and exhaustion. But these stories are also about resilience, determination and hope. They are about finding the right support, rebuilding confidence and helping children and young people achieve what once seemed impossible.
Ellie's story
Children avoided Ellie at nursery, leaving her feeling rejected at an age when play should be about friendship, belonging and building confidence.
Despite facing doubts from professionals, Jan, her mum, fought for answers, securing the diagnosis Ellie needed, which led them to Lakeside School, where the lost little girl finally found a place where she belongs.
Hayden's story
Hayden's early school experiences were marked by exclusions, challenges and being labelled as "naughty".
After attending three primary schools, he reached crisis point. Determined that he wouldn't face the same experience in secondary school, his mum found Millcourt School, where not only Hayden's life, but his family's life, was transformed.
Harley's story
Harley was suspended multiple times, but he never truly understood why. Each suspension felt personal.
As the impact on family life continued to grow, his mum, Carly, put forward Castlefell School. That decision changed everything.
Alfie's story
At just five years old, Alfie was losing his hair because of stress. He felt invisible, and in his own words, "didn't feel like a person."
As mainstream education became increasingly unmanageable, Alfie's mum took matters into her own hands, determined to find a setting that truly understood him.
James' story
Every day, James' mum saw the toll school was taking on her son. After a long period of patiently waiting for the right support, she decided to take matters into her own hands and fight for the education he deserved.
