Positive Behaviour Support

Understanding each and every child

Empowering strategies

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is guided by core values, focusing on collaboration with young people and their families to improve their lives and eliminate unnecessary restrictions. Behaviours of concern often stem from unmet needs. PBS employs various methods to understand these behaviours and empowers children and young people to address their needs in safer, more constructive ways. Effective support requires aligning systems to serve the needs of children and young people, and regularly reviewing this support to ensure it continues to work for them.

Our PBS stages

Creating Safe Spaces

Provides universal support for all children and young people. Using the Capable Environments Framework (12 key areas of support), teams create environments that meet individual needs and promote growth. This approach recognises that all behaviours serve a purpose and integrates trauma-informed support.

Targeted Support

Offers targeted, specialist support for those needing additional help. This may include a brief functional assessment and implementation of key behaviour strategies.

Individualised Learning

Provides intensive, individualised support for children and young people with complex needs. At this level, a detailed functional assessment is conducted, leading to a comprehensive support plan. Multi-disciplinary teams collaborate to deliver tailored interventions, ensuring children receive the right support to help them thrive.

Grow, Achieve & Succeed

Our teams support children and young people to develop successful coping strategies to help them grow into an independent individual, equipped with the knowledge, experience and life skills to look to the future with increased confidence and aspiration

"Leaders and staff have created a nurturing environment. They help pupils to learn, play and discover in a safe place. Pupils are kind to each other."
