25 NOVEMBER 2021
Pupils and staff from Cumberland School recently paid tribute to mark Remembrance Day.
On the 11th November they gathered in the school’s front garden to take part in a service to remember members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.
A year 10 pupil read John McCrae’s poem ‘In Flanders Field’ and then pupils laid their handmade crosses and poppies they made in class in the lead-up to the day. Instructor, Andrew Larrington who is also a veteran, wore his service medals and read the Exhortation:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
‘The Last Post’ a poem, was also read followed by a two-minute silence which everyone observed.
Pupils were engaged with their learning experiences and showed the utmost respect.
