John is one of our pastoral care assistants based at Bridgeway School. He discusses why working at the school is so rewarding.
What do you love most about working at WG?
It’s a good team who are very supportive and it’s a great environment to work in, helping vulnerable young people.
How has working at WG enhanced your skills and professional growth?
You get great training here at WG and you have a very supportive team. Everyone goes out of their way to help each other and encourage training and progression.
What do you find most rewarding about working with children and young people in your role?
You see them at their worst, but you also get to witness the other side of it. For example, you could see them in the morning and they are really struggling, but by the end of the day they get in the taxi happy, so you know you have made a difference.
What inspired you to become a Pastoral Care Assistant?
In my previous employment as a deputy manager at a children’s care home, I worked alongside a young person at Bridgeway and I was really impressed with the handovers and the way the school worked. I also had a change in circumstances with having a baby which made 24 hours shifts less realistic to do, so this role really suited my work/life balance.
