Who will look after me?
In the Home there is a team of staff there all of the time who will make sure that you are safe and well. The Manager of the Home makes sure all of the staff look after you properly. You will also have two Key Workers who will spend time with you making sure that you are happy and that you are listened to.
What do I do if I don’t feel well?
Tell any of the staff and they will try their best to make you feel more comfortable. If they can’t help, they will ask somebody else to help; this person may be a nurse, doctor or a dentist.
What do I do if I am upset during the night?
There are always staff in the Home who will help you. During the night one member of staff stays awake and another sleeps in the staff room.
What if something happens that I am not happy with?
Within the Home it is ok to make a complaint if you are not happy with something and the staff will try their best to make things better for you. If they can’t help there are Complaints Officers in the Home that you can talk to. When you move into the Home, your Key Worker will spend time with you explaining what to do if you are not happy.
Can I visit my Dad?
If you are usually allowed to visit your Dad, we would like this to carry on. Just because you have moved into a new home, it does not mean that things that you usually do have to change. We can sort out transport to take you to see your Dad.
Can my Mum and Sister visit me?
If you usually see your Mum and Sister, we will encourage that they come and visit you.
Can I bring my games console?
Of course you can bring it, but when you move in, your Key Workers will talk to you about keeping it safe.
Can I put photos and pictures on my bedroom wall?
Yes you can. It is your bedroom and we want you to personalise it by bringing any favourite pictures, possessions, books, etc
Will the things in my room be safe?
You have your own bedroom door key so when you leave your room you must remember to lock it when you leave; so none of the young people can go in. If you have anything that you are worried about you can leave it with the staff for safekeeping.
Who picks what I eat?
Every week all of the young people and staff have a meeting, at this time everybody has a chat about what they want to eat. Before you move in we will find out what foods you like and don’t like.
Do I get pocket money?
Yes, it depends on your age and your behaviour it is usually between £5 and £8 per week.
When I’m not in school what do I do?
Near to the Home there are lots of things to do, youth clubs, scouts, swimming pools, sports clubs, shops and parks. Sometimes though we just spend time in the house, playing games, baking, etc. If there is something that you would like to do, make sure that you tell us and we will try to sort it out for you?
How do I get to school?
The staff will take you to school and pick you up afterwards in our car.
What do I do if I get homework and I cannot do it?
Let one of the staff know and they will help you. We have a computer with internet in the home that you can use and there is also a local library that the staff can help you to use if it is needed.
