Care & Education Introduction
At Witherslack Care & Education Initiatives we recognise the importance that education plays in the future experiences and positive life chances of the young people in our care. We believe that every young person has a right to access education of the highest quality and at a level appropriate to their individual ability and circumstances.
The vast majority of young people accommodated by Witherslack Care & Education Initiatives are educated within the Witherslack Group of Schools or attend a local College of Further Education. The schools provide a wide range of high quality experiences which are invariably assessed as being "Good" or "Outstanding" by Ofsted. The schools cater for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs including:
- Complex Learning Difficulties
- Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties
- Challenging Behaviour
- Language And Communication Problems
- Attachment Disorders
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Specific Learning Difficulties
- Anxiety And Depression
- Asperger's Syndrome
- Moderate/General Learning Difficulties
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders
- Disaffected Learners
- Pathological Demand Avoidance
The exception to this is The Grange, a new dynamic, innovative facility providing specialist therapeutic care and education on a semi-rural site. The Grange has a Learning Centre, registered as a school with the DCSF.
Individual Care and Education Plan
Each young person on admission undergoes a 12 week initial assessment period. During this time an Individual Care and Education Plan is constructed. This initial ICEP is reviewed at the end of the 12 week initial assessment period. Following this assessment, targets are identified specifically related to individual needs. We are committed to helping young people achieve meaningful outcomes and the ICEP is crucial to this process. The ICEP is a continuously evolving document which is reviewed and evaluated on a monthly basis.
The five main target areas incorporated into an ICEP are:
- Health
- Safety
- Enjoyment & Achievement
- Making a positive Contribution
- Economic Well-being
