Westmorland School is a primary school for up to 32 boys and girls with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties and associated learning needs. We aim to equip children with the skills to succeed, building their self-esteem and confidence. We help children to learn more effectively by using a variety of teaching and learning styles and promoting independent learning.

"I feel my son has improved in all aspects since starting at Westmorland; emotionally, psychologically and educationally. I now have back the child I knew at age 5, who was happy, lively, inquisitive, confident and alive. I can't thank you enough for bringing this back when I thought it was gone forever".

Star Comes to Chorley School

Wigan Warriors Rugby League star, Thomas Leuluai, thrilled pupils and parents alike this week at an open day for a Lancashire school.

Westmorland School is a primary day school for up to 32 boys and girls with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties with associated learning needs. It is one of eight schools and four children’s homes run by The Witherslack Group, which offers education and residential care to children with special education needs.

Sue Asher is headteacher at Westmorland School, she said: “The day has been a great success and the parents, pupils and local authority representatives have all enjoyed meeting the staff and pupils and seeing what’s on offer at the school.

“The children have taken part in ‘Westmorland’s Got Talent, our very own talent competition, sports prizes have been awarded by Thomas and we’ve even had a mini production of Alice In Wonderland.”

Thomas Leuluai said: “I have had a fantastic time with the staff and pupils and been really impressed by the fantastic work that is going on at the school.

“It is so important that first-class facilities, like these, are available to children and families who need them.”
