"I feel my son has improved in all aspects since starting at Westmorland; emotionally, psychologically and educationally. I now have back the child I knew at age 5, who was happy, lively, inquisitive, confident and alive. I can't thank you enough for bringing this back when I thought it was gone forever".

Westmorland Passes Inspection With Flying Colours

Westmorland School in Chorley has achieved an excellent grading by Ofsted inspectors.

Westmorland School is a primary day school for up to 32 boys and girls with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties with associated learning needs. It is one of eight schools and four children’s homes run by The Witherslack Group, which offers education and residential care to children with special education needs.

Ofsted graded the school ‘outstanding’ in how well the curriculum and other activities meet the range of needs and interests of pupils; the quality of provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and the overall welfare, health and safety of pupils.

Westmorland also fulfilled 100% of Ofsted’s overall regulations, a 10% increase from the school’s last grading three years ago.

Sue Asher, headteacher at Westmorland School, said: “It is the dedication and commitment of my staff that has enabled us to achieve these fantastic results’.

“Our children are very proud of their school and thoroughly enjoy lessons which has been acknowledged in the report.”

Geoff Brady, director at The Witherslack Group, said: “This is another excellent report for one of The Witherslack Group schools.

“It is well deserved and a credit to the staff and pupils who all contribute to the school’s success. It also reinforces the confidence and trust by parents and local authorities in entrusting their children’s education and care to Westmorland School.”
