Lakeside School caters for children with complex learning and communication difficulties.  The school adopts a holistic approach towards children and provides a high level of quality education and care. We seek to provide a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum, in order to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of the pupils. This also prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

“I feel 100% confident that my son is in the best place possible for him and he loves it. I will never fully be able to express my full gratitude to you, for helping him belong somewhere.”

Lakeside School – Pastoral Care

Support

The Pastoral Care of all the children at Lakeside School is within the supervision of the Deputy Head and Head of Pastoral Care, who maintain a close liaison with parents, and other primary carers as well as statutory authorities.

The Environment

Such factors as the nature and quality of the environment, the structure and routine of the day, the opportunity for children to assume responsibility for their own behaviour, the type of mutual respect and understanding that exists between staff and pupils, and a feeling of stability and security, all play a crucial role in the development of an atmosphere conducive to learning, good order and discipline.

"He’s completely different. He’s a lot more self confident. He’s trying lots of new things. He’s matured so much, in so many different ways. He just seems to be able to control himself a lot better now. He’s amazed he’s got friends. Something he’s never had before."  Parent

Activities

Pupils’ behaviour is supported by a simple system of rewards which is understood by all pupils and staff and which can be easily adapted to the individual needs of specific children. The pupils are highly motivated by the reward system, and are given many opportunities to celebrate their success, throughout each school day, and in particular during the whole-school celebration assembly, at the end of each week.

"The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils is outstanding due to the excellent curriculum and support provided...moral issues are woven into many areas of school life and pupils play an active role and understand their responsibilities to others and the environment." Ofsted

Individual Support

At Lakeside School the high level of supervision, small class sizes and structured activities, both in class and during recreation periods, enables pupils to feel safe and secure. Pupils are empowered to assert themselves and express their feelings in appropriate ways and are encouraged at all times to respect one another.

"He socialises at Lakeside School and he's learned so many ways to deal with his behaviour and how to control it. I am one hundred percent confident that he is actually in the best place for him. And the biggest thing is, he's happy. And now he's happy, our quality of life has improved dramatically as a family." Parent
