Lakeside School - special education for pupils aged 5-13

Aims

The school seeks to provide a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum, including the National Curriculum, which is modified where appropriate, in order to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of the pupils, whilst also preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Curriculum

Many subjects, including English and drama, science, history, geography, art, design and technology, information communication technology and physical education, are delivered through the teaching and learning of cross-curricular topic based themes.
In addition to this themed approach, there is a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills in literacy and numeracy and on the development of social and communication skills.
The school follows nationally recognised schemes of work for Personal, Social and Health Education/Citizenship and Religious Education. The pupils are provided with areas of experience in the curriculum, which enable them not only to acquire separate bodies of knowledge and skills, but also lend themselves to the creation of an enjoyable learning environment where the individual potential of each child may be fulfilled to its maximum.

The curriculum very successfully maximises opportunities for learning and success.” Ofsted
