Cumberland Upper School Image

Cumberland Upper School is a day school for girls and boys aged 11-16 who have behavioural, emotional, social and associated learning difficulties. The primary aim of the school is to present students in KS4 with an exciting, dynamic and personalised curriculum, utilising local community resources and provision through experiential learning and practice.  These will include access to the National Curriculum, ASDAN accreditations, as well as link courses within local colleges, work related learning visits and placements.

Year 11 and Year 10 also visited Darwen Fire Station and learned about the role of the Firefighter. Students were surprised to learn that firefighters are learning almost every day and a large part of their work now is to visit schools to talk about fire prevention and general safety.
 

With the success and popularity of climbing in previous terms, Cumberland Upper School is now affiliated to the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS).

Some of the pupils having fun at Darwen Fire Station as part of their Asdan Bronze Award.

Years 10 and 11 went to Whinney Hill Recycling Plant in Accrington as part of their environmental studies on recycling.

Art students have been looking at animals of Africa.  The art students are so talented that not only have they drawn animal eyes but they have sculpted 3D animal eyes.

Pupils spent a day learning about birds of prey at YMCA National Centre.
