Creating Opportunities and Challenge for Successful Futures

Welcome to Cumberland Upper School website.  I am very lucky to be headteacher of a school which caters for the needs of students between the ages of 14 to 16.

It is a fantastic opportunity to focus attention on senior student needs and prepare them for life after school.

I am very proud of the achievements of our young people and look forward to building on these in the future.

I hope this site will give you a flavour of our school.  Please arrange to come and visit us if you feel you would like to get to know us better!

Miss Jackie Rhodes, Head Teacher

About Cumberland Upper School

At our learning campus we endeavour to equip students with the skills they need to fit into their new school community and the community outside of school.  We provide the opportunity for students to complete college courses and work placements and encourage students to gain as many relevant qualifications as possible by concentrating on personalised learning programmes.  We have strategies in place to encourage students to work and cooperate with each other and accept and appreciate people’s  differences.  There is an emphasis on students managing their own behaviour and taking responsibility for their actions.

Since the school opened in Nov 2007 we have gone from strength to strength. During the last academic year students embarked on  and successfully completed a number of accreditations ranging from Unit Awards to GCSEs.

The staff at Cumberland Upper School are well qualified to work with the students in our care.  Staff are supportive, understanding and have the needs of our students at  the centre of their approach.

Staff are ably supported by our Educational Psychologist, Counsellor, Speech and Language Therapist and a range of outside agencies.
