Chilworth House Upper School - Therapeutic Services

The school is a therapeutic environment and the approach of the staff is to assist each pupil in identifying core issues, resolving conflict, developing new attitudes and coping skills. All therapeutic input is designed to help every young person build resilience and to develop a more effective and healthy lifestyle. The team of staff work together to provide our pupils with specific developmental skills, assisting them to make good decisions.

Chilworth House Upper School aims to integrate speech and language therapy into the classroom.  Communication is fundamental to learning and therefore collaboration with the teaching staff is essential to ensure communication is functional within the learning environment. Individual programmes are written for pupils by the Speech and Language Therapist using activities that will engage, motivate and focus the children's attention. The Speech and Language Therapist works collaboratively with the teachers in each class to progress the young person's communication skills.

Education Psychologists and other professionals are involved when required.

When a pupil first arrives in the school we assist them to settle into the routines and help the pupil to become ready to access the curriculum in order that they are able and willing to make maximum use of the learning opportunities available in the school.
