Cedar House School – 38 week residential placements
Accomodation
The school can accommodate up to 58 residential pupils.
Residential accommodation is arranged in five houses each of which has its own distinct character, remit and staffing: Westmorland House is the senior boy's house and caters for 13 boys including an independence suite for up to 6 boys. Lonsdale House is the intermediate boy's house and caters for 16 boys, incorporating a semi independent area for up to 4 boys. Lowgate House caters for 8 junior boys. Dales House has accommodation for 7 junior boys and girls. Bowland is the girl's house which caters for 14 girls incorporating an independence suite for up to 4 girls.
The majority of rooms in the residential houses have en-suite bathroom facilities. The independence suites have a kitchen and a dining area to promote the development of life skills. There are two waking watch staff who support the pupils and staff throughout the night. Each house has ‘sleep in' staff every night and senior staff are on call.
Activities
Residential pupils participate in a 24 hour curriculum and follow evening and weekend activity programmes, which include rock climbing, caving, water sports, gorge walking, fishing, swimming, computers, art and craft, cinema and many more Full use of facilities is made in the local area and pupils are encouraged to take part in local activities such as Guides and Army Cadets. To promote healthy lifestyles pupils also have access to fitness training in the local gym, and even the local Weight Watchers!
Each house has at least one lounge area with televisions, DVD and video players, computers and games consoles, alongside the more traditional activities such as board games and art and craft. A permanent indoor games area and a multipurpose hall are available during leisure time.
Individual Support
Pupils have access to staff support in a number of ways:
Each class group has a class tutor who is available to discuss individual education related issues. Class tutors also give feedback to pupils about their behaviour and their grades each week.
All pupils have a Keyworker, and the opportunity for regular timetabled one to one sessions when individual concerns and difficulties can be discussed and personal success can be celebrated.
