AUTISM RUN RAISES £2,000
Staff from an Independent Assessment and Development Centre for children with communication difficulties in Ormskirk, put on their running shoes to raise more than £2,000 for charity.
Belle Vue House organised a charity 10k race to promote World Autism Awareness Day, with proceeds from the event going to The National Autistic Society.
The team at Belle Vue House provide a range of assessments for children with communication difficulties including the diagnosis of Autism. The centre also offers customised packages for accredited training and outreach services.
Jude Brown, Head of Belle Vue House, said: “We decided to organise the 10k race as we wanted to raise awareness of Autism and do something different to mark World Autism Awareness Day.
“Although more and more children and young people are now being diagnosed as autistic, there is still a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding surrounding the disorder.
“The event was a huge success and exceeded our expectations. It was great to see runners of all abilities taking part for such a good cause.”
The event took place at Sporting Edge, Edge Hill University’s sports complex, and attracted more than 200 participants. It was sponsored by local businesses, Scotts the Butchers, Premier Sports and Blue Juice and Java.
