Welcome from Jim Bowers

Welcome to the Witherslack Group's website on behalf of myself and the rest of our staff.

For those of you who are not familiar with the work we do, we are a leading provider of specialist education and care for children and young people with behaviour, emotional and social difficulties, communication difficulties and complex learning difficulties.

We work with a number of local authorities across the UK. We run eight schools and five children’s homes, providing a diverse day, residential and 52 week system of education and care. The Group was founded in 1972 in the North West and we now work across the UK in partnerships with parents, local authorities and the wider community to best meet the individual needs of all children and young people within our schools and homes.

As well as catering for children and young people between the ages of 4 and 19, we are also a leading provider of professional development within the education and care sectors through JBE Training and Development. This branch of the Witherslack Group was originally set up to provide training and quality assurance in-house. Due to its success, we now research, design and deliver programmes to many specialist and mainstream education and care organisations throughout the UK.

We are committed to delivering first-class education, care and training provision across the Group and look forward to building on our continued success as a leader in our field.

Our Schools

The Witherslack Group of Schools provide high quality education and care programmes for children and young people from 4 years through to 19 years with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

All schools are registered with the DCSF and offer high-tech learning resources in modern well equipped environments.

All our schools provide education and social programmes designed to meet the individual pupil's needs and enhance their self-esteem, independence and skills for lifelong learning. This ensures that each pupil is able to reach their maximum potential.

Our Children's Homes

Through our children's homes we provide an integrated package of high quality 52 week residential care and education in conjunction with the Witherslack Group of Schools. Our homes accommodate between four and seven young people and are located in Southport, West Lancashire and Cumbria.

Each home provides a high quality group living experience within a welcoming and warm domestic setting. All young people have individual rooms, the vast majority are en-suite and all homes are furnished and equipped to a high standard.

All our young people are supported by an experienced and skilled staff team to develop their social and independent skills and help them reach their full potential.

Our provision also includes an innovative care and education facility in the North East of England.
